The first stop of the tour will be the historical Hollókő, that is an ethnographic village and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The quite small village is known for people of “Palóc” origins, which is a group of Hungarian, with unique culture, and a very unique dialect of Hungarian. In Hollókő you will get to learn about the interesting Palóc traditions, and visit the most amazing places of the village: the castle of Hollókő and the Palóc Doll Museum. After that, you will be traveling east from the village, to Eger, one of the cultural capitals of the country.

Eger is most famous for its multiple different cultures. In the town you will have a chance to admire the country’s 2nd largest and one of the most beautiful basilicas. Also you will see one of the most important monument of the Ottoman rule in Hungary, the minaret of Eger. The minaret was built in the 16th century and it is one of the specific monuments of the city as well as the famous Castle of Eger with great historical importance. During the tour you will also get to visit this magnificent high castle, where one of the greatest Hungarian battle was. That was the Siege of Eger, where just a few Hungarian heroes defended the castle against the Turkish Empire. You will visit the interior of the castle, and learn about the famous battle and the country’s history under the Turkish rule.

Eger is also famous for its amazing wine culture and beautiful wineries. You can also try the wines of Eger and join a wine tasting experience in one of the most famous wineries of the region in the “Szépasszony völgy” area. The valley is one of the centres of Hungarian wine culture and it is the birthplace of the famous Egri Bikavér. Your guide will tell you all you need to know about the region, Hungarian wines and the country’s culture in general while you are tasting different wine specialties of this region.
